Kuala Lumpur, April 13, 2017– Many champions among us often go unnoticed because their gifts and talents come in different forms that we fail to recognise. Children with autism are the unsung heroes, who are more often misunderstood than celebrated.
While dealing with normal day-to-day activities seem to be an uphill task for these young ones, when showered with love and support, they can emerge as champions who help us look at life with a renewed sense of awe.
In line with Autism Awareness Month, celebrated globally every April, CHAMPS launched the, “Every Child is a Champion” campaign in collaboration with the National Autism Society of Malaysia (NASOM). The campaign also ties in with NASOM’s 30-year anniversary since its establishment in 1987.
Held from April to June 2017, the campaign hopes to end misconceptions and raise awareness of this little understood neurological disorder. In 2014, statistics revealed that some 47,000 Malaysians are autistic and this figure is expected to rise by 3 per cent each year.
Speaking at the launch, YB Dato’ Hajah Normala Abdul Samad, Chairman of CCM Duopharma Biotech Berhad (CCMD) said that the Company was honoured to team up with NASOM for the second year to bring light about this disorder among Malaysians.
“Cases of Autism in the country is steadily rising, yet the disorder remains greatly misunderstood. Through the campaign, we hope to raise awareness and bring about greater understanding on the disorder. With the right support and care, we believe that children with autism can achieve their dreams too,” she added.
In conjunction with the campaign, the Company will organise a donation drive to subsidise NASOM’s future activities and help the association expand its early intervention programme. The public can support this initiative by purchasing CHAMPS health supplements or by simply uploading a photo on Instagram of their family donning blue outfits, symbolising Autism awareness.
CHAMPS will donate 50 sen for every bottle purchased or each photo posted on Instagram, with the hashtag #mychampionsnasom, throughout the campaign period. The Company hopes to raise RM50,000 through the campaign.
Acknowledging the numerous struggle parents with autistic children face, CHAMPS will also organise a special radio interview with Sinar FM to offer advice to caregivers on bringing up and realising their autistic child’s full potential.
En. Leonard Ariff Abdul Shatar, CCMD’s Chief Executive Officer said that the Company was delighted to support NASOM’s efforts in helping the needs of autistic children and adults in the country.
“CHAMPS continues to be a well-loved brand in Malaysia, supporting the nutritional well-being of children for over 34 years. We are certainly grateful for the continuous support and want to do our bit to help the community around us.
We commend NASOM’s initiatives in providing the perfect platform to support caregivers in raising their autistic child. We hope the campaign will expand knowledge on this disorder among the general public and draw others to come forward to help this worthy cause,” he added. NASOM Chairman, Pn. Feilina S.Y Muhammad Feisol was grateful to CCM for its continued partnership and support through the campaign.
“This year is especially important for us as we mark our 30-year anniversary. We are greatly encouraged by the support shown by CCM as well as other corporations and the public, and have much activities lined up for the year. The campaign with CHAMPS complements our efforts and helps us in our mission to spread awareness on Autism,” said Pn. Feilina. CHAMPS is the first Halal-certified children’s vitamins, trusted by mothers in Malaysia for over 34 years as the “Mothers’ Choice for Champions”.
